Maple Workability:
Working with hard maple can be accomplished relatively easily using both hand and machine tools. However, compared to soft maple, hard maple's greater density makes it marginally more difficult to work with. When being machined with high-speed cutters, maple may have a tendency to burn. Nonetheless, it turns, glues, and finishes well, though blotching may occur during staining. To achieve a uniform color, it may be necessary to utilize a pre-conditioner, gel stain, or toner.
Maple Uses:
Various applications of Maple wood include flooring for basketball courts, dance-floors, and residential purposes, along with use for veneer and paper made from pulpwood. Additionally, it is utilized for musical instruments, cutting boards, butcher blocks, workbenches, baseball bats, and various other turned objects and specialty wood items. And of course, beautiful live edge wood slab tables!
Color:Live edge Maple wood slabs have a white to creamy white sapwood and light red-brown heartwood; sometimes the heartwood is seen with a subtle greenish tinge. The lumber is generally straight grained, but maple occasionally has curly, birdseye, blister, burly, spalted, or fiddleback figure.
