Origin -Madrone is found on the west coast of North America from northern California to southern British Columbia.

Color – The sapwood is cream colored while the heartwood is a pale reddish brown color with some streaking. The Madrone that we have in stock has curly figure.

Janka Hardness – 1460 (medium)

Decay and Weather Resistance – Rated as non-durable and is not decay resistant.

Workability – Madrone is a very hard and heavy wood with excellent strength and bending properties. Surprisingly, it works well with both hand and machine tools even though it is so hard. It should be air dried slowly but once dry it is a very stable wood. It is difficult to glue but once glued it holds well. It polishes and finishes well.

Uses – Since it resists indentation and abrasion, Madrone is an ideal wood for flooring as well as for turnery, cabinets, and veneer. Its beautiful color also makes it an ideal wood for use in high end furniture making.
