Our Red Elm Inventory

We have Red Elm slabs in stock online in sizes that usually range:

  • Up to 27" wide
  • Up to 9' long

Origin: Red Elm is commonly referred to as Slippery Elm or Soft Elm. It can be found in the Eastern and Midwestern United States.

Color: Red Elm has a reddish-brown heartwood and a pale sapwood.

Janka Hardness: 860 (medium-soft). Hardness is similiar to Honduran Mahogany.

Decay & Weather Resistance: Red Elm is rated as non-durable and is not insect resistant.

Workability: Some note that Red Elm can be difficult to work with due to its interlocked grain. However, it does glue, stain, and finish well.

Uses: Red Elm is used for furniture, boxes, baskets, and veneer
